Sunset Park

Wiley|Wilson transformed a closed landfill in Waynesboro, Virginia, into Sunset Park—a vibrant community destination with breathtaking, 360-degree views of the city and valley. Working closely with local stakeholders, the team developed a visionary master plan that secured critical state grant funding and elevated the project to the city’s highest priority.

Sunset Park’s design features two scenic overlooks, thoughtfully re-graded landscapes for events of all sizes, and an architecturally distinctive pavilion celebrating the site’s railroad heritage. The plan incorporates mountain bike and walking trails, a modern comfort station with restrooms and potable water, and an engaging informational kiosk with interpretive signage. Additional improvements include upgraded entrances, advanced stormwater management, stabilized access roads, and enhanced security for the landfill gas extraction system.

This project demonstrates Wiley|Wilson’s commitment to turning complex challenges into lasting community assets—creating a park that will inspire and serve Waynesboro for generations.
