Employee-owners Catch Disco Fever at Annual United Way Bowl-a-thon

Five lanes. Twenty-four bowlers. Seven hundred and twenty frames. A few strikes and spares. Plenty of gutter balls. This sums up the Wiley|Wilson teams’ day at the United Way of Central Virginia’s Bowl-a-thon. Five teams of employee-owners bowled in this event, raising more than $1,500 for this worthy cause.

“We’re proud to again be a part of this event. The United Way does so much to support Central Virginia,” said Brooke McDonald, Wiley|Wilson Human Resources Generalist and coordinator of the company’s United Way campaign. “The theme this year was ‘Soul Bowl,’ which we all enjoyed.”

Indeed, “Soul Bowl” was a fun theme. The bowling alley was decked out with disco balls, lava lamps, and bell bottoms. A DJ blasted the “best” tunes from the days of disco.

“Our local United Way does a lot to help the area. Wiley|Wilson is always eager to help with their events. The Bowl-a-thon is a real highlight,” said Tim Groover, President and COO.

The United Way holds its annual Bowl-a-thon every January. Dozens of teams bowl from local businesses and other community groups. The money raised helps the United Way support more than 20 non-profits that provide 38 critical programs to serve the people of Central Virginia.
