Naval Support Facility, P-222 Decentralized Steam Systems Upgrade

In an effort to provide an energy efficient infrastructure to support the mission at the Naval Support Facility, Wiley|Wilson is providing design services to update and restructure the steam and electrical distribution systems.

The work performed includes constructing a decentralized steam distribution system consisting of a new 4.6 MW gas-fired cogeneration facility (Strauss Plant) with seven secondary natural gas-fueled nodal steam plants with capacities ranging from 200 hp to 750 hp; a new Utilities and Energy Management Building; and demolishing the existing Goddard Power Plant and its support buildings, structures, and steam lines.

When completed, the new system will reduce energy consumption, decrease utility costs, and improve the reliability of the electrical and steam distribution infrastructure to satisfy the current and future needs of supported commands.
