Gulfport/Biloxi Air Traffic Control Tower & Base Building

Wiley|Wilson provided full design services for the construction of a new low activity level Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) at a height of 157’ with a 10,000 SF Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) base building facility. Services included architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and site design and security.

The design of the air traffic control tower is a site adaptation based on FAA ATO Standard Facilities Design which Wiley|Wilson also helped to develop under a separate task order. Local conditions required designs accommodating wetlands mitigation, site drainage/retention facilities, and hurricane force winds. The site layout was designed to meet the latest federal security standards, including blast resistance, while also accommodating the Airport Authority’s vision for future development.

Systems design included full HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection integration. Redundant HVAC and power were provided for all critical areas of the facility. The air traffic control tower was certified in compliance with 29CFR 1960.20.
