7MW Gas-Fired Industrial Combined Heat and Power: Power Uprate Project
Wiley|Wilson designed several project to increase the power boiler capacity and resolve steam line cracking issues:
- Economizer system analysis and modifications to increase energy recovery by 30%
- New feedwater pump for desuperheater and PRV station
- New small feedwtaer pump for low steam use periods with a turbine system for power generation and 15psi steam supply to the deaerator system.
- Pipe stress analysis using ALGOR cyclic fatigue analysis.

Central Plant Coal-Fired Combined Heat and Power: Multiple Projects
Wiley|Wilson has designed steam plants and chiller plants for Virginia Tech since 1918. Our legacy projects include three 60,000PPH gas/oil-fired steam boilers and a 100,00PPH coal fired power boiler. In recent years, we have completed designed for several modifications under a term contract with the university.
- New fly/bottom ash storage silo, conveyors and truck loading station.
- New fly ash/lime waste silo to separate for beneficial use
- New lime storage, slurry systems and spray dryer absorber for flue gas desulfurization.
- Replaced forced draft and induced draft fans for boiler uprates.

10MW Hydroelectric Power Plant: Penstock Replacement
Wiley|Wilson designed the steel pipe replacement of a 70 inch wood stave penstock that supplies water to the 10MW turbine generator located at the Danville Power & Light Pinnacles Hydro Complex. |
 |
6MW Hydroelectric Power Plant: Power Uprate
Wiley|Wilson designed the uprate of this existing hydroelectric facility, including new turbines and housing, new head gate structure, and new intake structure. |

|
20MW Peaking Plant: Preliminary Design
Wiley|Wilson completed preliminary design for the site slope stability, foundation and a cooling water supply study for a FPL peaking plant adjacent to the James River. The study included a seven mile pipe routing plan, pumping system and construction cost estimates.
