Architecture
Wiley|Wilson Architecture thrives on three principals:
Exploration
No “one size fits all” – each solution is unique and is a response to your vision, the environment, and the context of the site.
Innovation
We thrive on complex design problems where we can engage the skills set of our in-house multi-discipline teams to develop innovative solutions.
Collaboration
Understanding your goals and putting them into a physical form.
BIM/3D Design
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a growing part of the design industry and Wiley|Wilson has made a point of being on the forefront of this technology. By working in a fully integrated BIM platform, a wealth of tools and options allow us to provide the best possible design. Whatever the size of the project, whatever platform required... Wiley|Wilson has the expertise to help our clients achieve their goals.
Commissioning
It has been said that, “One way or another every building or system gets commissioned. It either gets commissioned by trained personnel during the construction phase, or it gets commissioned through years of correcting failures via post warranty service calls.” Wiley|Wilson has uniquely trained and certified in-house engineers to address all types of commissioning needs. Whether the project requires a third party commissioning agent to satisfy LEED requirements or the project is highly specialized and requires a commissioning team with extensive knowledge and experience over a variety of disciplines, Wiley|Wilson will provide a team that will partner with you to assure a successful commissioning project.
Design-Build
Wiley|Wilson understands design-build projects and has embraced the process with the successful completion of numerous federal government and private sector projects. Through extensive project experience, the firm has developed a thorough understanding and an insight for the unique relationship that is required between contractor and designer.
Energy Audits
In today's economic environment, one of the best investments you can make is to take steps that will reduce your energy consumption and operating cost. For more than 20 years we have been identifying ways for reducing energy consumption and operating cost of buildings and central plants via energy audits. Our energy audits have covered more than six million square feet of buildings and include nearly every type of building type and building system in use today. From schools to labs, our systematic approach combined with experience can help you experience savings for years to come.
Energy Management and Infrastructure Development
Energy Management and Infrastructure Development have been important parts of our business since the 1970’s. Our multi-disciplined team of professionals performs energy audits and studies, evaluates opportunities for energy savings, designs new systems to save energy, and renovates existing systems to increase efficiency. We are experienced in energy master plans to chart a client’s course to meet future energy requirements, as well as, efficient utility design and control system improvements. We offer cost efficient solutions to energy distribution challenges. We work with clients to meet the unique requirements of each rather than offer “cookie-cutter” solutions.

A corporate director is assigned to this client type and federal government projects are continuously at the forefront of the director’s dedication.
Funding/Financial Assistance
Several methods for financing public utility services are available to Virginia’s units of local government. In general, funds to facilitate construction need to be budgeted by the locality and are made available through Local Government Bonds, Bond Pools, or through Government Assistance Programs, and/or a combination of these sources.
Higher Education/Research Facilities
Educational projects include a wide variety of customers spanning over the entire United States. Active participation with SRAPPA and APPA provide a greater understanding of educational client needs. Personnel maintain a sensitivity to specialized student needs and requirements. Judicial Facilities
Courthouses are more than just a place to hold judicial proceedings; there are landmarks and symbols of their community. Most are registered historic structures that contain the collective record of the place and its people. We work very closely with the community to understand these places and carefully craft a solution that preserves that which is treasured while providing that which is essential for a functional and secure facility.

Renewable Energy
Renewable Energy currently provides seven to eight percent of our country’s total energy needs. The world is predicted to consume more than 50% more energy by the year 2030 than it used in 2005. The percentage of renewable energy used must increase and it must become more efficient in order to meet that prediction. Our team has the technical expertise to assist in the feasibility analyses and designs of biomass, photovoltaic, and geothermal systems. We have assembled a team that can carry a project through the initial financial evaluations and permitting, through design, construction, and start-up. Stormwater Management
Stormwater management is a major concern to communities throughout the Nation. Regulations are changing, becoming stricter with lower thresholds. Penalties for non-compliance are becoming more severe. New technologies are constantly being developed without long term studies to validate the pollutant reduction claims. In this evolving world of stormwater, the public and private sectors have been tasked with the prevention, control, and treatment of stormwater. Like stormwater management, dams are an element of our stormwater infrastructure that has experienced increased attention in recent years. Dams impound water that is used for drinking water supply, flood control, and recreational purposes. Many of these structures are now beginning to show signs of deterioration or are deficient under current dam safety regulations.
Sustainability/LEED Design
Sustainable design was integral to our design process before it became a popular “buzz-word” in today’s design culture. Our project methodology focuses on whole building design which utilizes an integrated design approach and an integrated team process that involves the Owner’s stakeholders and decision makers. This results in collaborative and holistic design solutions that not only embrace Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) parameters but acknowledges and addresses additional criteria in the complex design of high performance buildings. In addition, Wiley|Wilson design projects undergo an internal peer review to ensure the solution meets the Owner’s sustainability goals in a fiscally responsible and constructible manner. Wiley|Wilson takes great pride in consciously maintaining and implementing sustainable design principles and strategies in all projects for material conservation, environmental quality, long-term durability, and energy efficiency.
