Historic Preservation

The Historic Preservation Department works closely with our Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering and Land Surveying departments. Likewise, we have significant experience managing historic preservation projects that involve the services of specialized subconsultants. Our preservation experience extends to both the public and private sectors, including many years of working with the National Park Service.

Through comprehensive services; including historic preservation planning, research, documentation, technical assessments, and recommendations for treatment; our professionals provide consistent, quality products that are tailored to meet the unique and specific needs of historic resources. From historic structure reports, cultural landscape reports, condition assessment reports and preservation plans to restoration/rehabilitation construction documents, design guidelines, and Section 106 (NHPA) compliance services, the preservation department collaborates with the other disciplines to ensure that all recommendations respect the historic character, context, and significance of the subject resources while providing for their continued use. To this end, we provide personal and effective project management to meet the needs of our clients, complete projects on time and within budget, and contribute to the preservation of the built environment.

All of our historic preservation work meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Additionally, we are conversant with the Secretary’s Standards and Guidelines for Architectural and Engineering Documentation: HABS/HAER Standards, including those prescribed for CAD documentation. Our managers of Historic Preservation and Architecture, as well as other staff meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Professional Qualifications Standards (36 CFR Part 61) for professionals working in the field of historic preservation.
