B&W mPower(tm) Integrated System Test Design Support - Bedford County, Virginia

Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) chose the Region 2000 Center for Advanced Engineering and Research (CAER) facility designed by Wiley|Wilson as the location for their mPower(tm) Integrated System Test (IST) facility. The IST facility, which is expected to be operational in 2011, will include a scaled prototype of the mPower(tm) reactor that will undergo extensive testing. While all the technical features of the mPower(tm) integral reactor are included in the IST the source of heat for testing is electric rather than nuclear.

Wiley|Wilson is designing the CAER facility modifications to accommodate the IST and is also providing engineering assistance to B&W for the design of actual IST components. Wiley|Wilson’s responsibilities for the CAER facility include full service A-E design and construction contract management. Our responsibilities for the IST facility include mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering design services and coordination of installation of the IST facility with the general contractor responsible for construction of the CAER.
